Hard to judge the sound quality of noise rock, but this album destroys all monsters with sheets of sonic assault. Dynamic live recording, captures the energy of the historic recording. Makes Spaceman 3 sound like nerd pop.referencing '77 Live (3×LP, Album, Limited Edition, Red [Opaque] + Black Splatter, Third Man Edition) DRFT07
Many (and by many I mean the majority of the scant few people who are aware of this band) say this set is the pinnacle of the band’s output and although I haven’t heard every bootleg and fan recorded show, it wouldn’t surprise me if the assumption was correct. It’s like Station to Station but the drug of choice is much weirder than cocaine. In saying that it feels more coherent and less chaotic than some of their earlier output while also being apocalyptic level heavy. This ranks among my favourite live albums, up there with the Velvet Underground Live at the Gymnasium and Dylan Royal Albert Hall concerts for sheer audacity and disregard for audience expectation.- Edited one year ago

Listened to this front to back last night. Absolutely amazing. So much care went into remastering this killer album, including the beautiful packaging and liner notes. Grateful to finally have this on wax. - Edited one year agoI have both a US press and the Japan press from the end of last year, and I would say that the US version actually has the Japan version beat—though of course it is still cool to have both :)
For example, this one has a tri-fold jacket while the JP press is a single, wide sleeve.
As far as sound goes, it rules on both of them, but the sound is just a slight bit louder than the JP press (which had a lot of deadwax on each side, the US press is pretty spread out, even on the shorter sides!). But whatever version or color you get, you will have a blast. It's so easy to see how much care and thought went into all these reissues.
Hope releases like Cable Hogue and France Demo Tape get official high quality releases someday!! referencing '77 Live (3×LP, Album, Limited Edition, Red [Opaque] + Black Splatter, Third Man Edition) DRFT07
for a special edition 3lp, i was hoping the jacket would be a bit more sturdy. it does the job, but my copy came with ring wear and bumps and creases sealed, mostly on the back, hoping to get a replacement. havent listened to it in full but so far its fine.- Absolutely flabbergasted at the sound quality of this release!
A true dream come true to finally have this on vinyl and in my hands.
Clear color looks great on the turntable and sounds even better. None of the crushing qualities are sacrificed. Highest recommendation. - Sounds about as good as you could possibly make this overblown monstrosity of an album. And I mean that in the best way possible, I’m so glad to finally have this beast on record. It’s an absolutely transcendental experience but not for the faint of heart. Really pushing the boundaries of music in the same way bands like Swans and Godspeed You Black Emperor have, only this is years before them and arguably more intense, just in sheer noise alone. The fact that something like this exists, and is finally widely available is a miracle, and it’s a testament to the extremes of sound while being so incredibly human.
