Reviews
- Edited 3 years agoThis release is a remix with new overdubs done by Joe Pass (guitar) and *I believe* additional overdubs by Russ Freeman (piano).
The stereo mix gives a 3D effect of having proximity of the singer, trumpet, guitar, and piano in the room, in addition it seems like an echo or reverb is added.
However I felt that the additional guitar and piano to the original clutters the mix, whereas the album loses the isolation and fragility it had in the original.
It was interesting hearing these songs I love, however I'll stick with my 1957 mono copy as my go-to.
Edit: If you are a Joe Pass fan, his contribution to this album is underwhelming. He just does chunk-chunk comping rhythms, that he criticizes as being uncreative. He is quietly in the background; no soloing and no colorful playing he's known for. Made me double check the credits to make sure it really was Joe Pass.
