Notes

Modes, & rhythms inspired by Arabic, African & Indian traditions, combined with a modern jazz approach that draws from Funk, Dub, Electronica, and many more such genres, and you get the unique sound of Sinouj. The union of the alto sax & the oriental violin, along with abstract contemporary harmonies and experimental electronic textures from the keyboard, and an unstoppable momentum of its African rhythm section give Sinouj’s music it’s unmistakable seal.

The originality & richness of the music of Sinouj is owed to the diversity of its select group of international musicians led by Pablo Hernández on the alto sax, who is also the composer of the band; a master violin player from Tunisia, Larbi Sassi; the infectious grooves of drummer Akin Onasanya from Nigeria; the sparkling palette of colors from the keyboards of the Italian Sergio Salvi; the “tumbao” and African grooves of the double bassist Damian Nueva from Cuba & the Argentinian Pablo Alfieri on the electric bass; and its collaboration with special guests such as Jorge Pardo (member of Paco de Lucia’s and Chick Corea’s band) on the flute, Javier Paxariño (Radio Tarifa) on flute and bansoori and Luis Taberna on percussion.

Three years after its CD/DVD Live at Play! With the flamenco master el Guadiana, Sinouj presents “ Were”

Originals tunes by Pablo Hernández , from the funkiest grooves of Nawa Party, Were, or Maghreb Cosmos, to the mysterious atmospheres of Haka Aka, Majazz (by Sofyan ben Youssef) or Taksim Possible (duo by Sergio Salvi & Larbi sassi) through the contemporary jazz rhythms of Wech (played in 19/4). Sinouj also offers an original reprise of Mulatu Astatke’s classic, Yekermo Sew, playing it in an Egyptian inspired rhythm.

Music with no borders is the sound of the global city in the new century.
