A good sampler of mid-90s downtempo, this is a quality collection, though there is little that isn't available elsewhere. The mid-90s downtempo formula - blunted breaks dressed up with vestiges of ambient house - is beginning to sound somewhat dated, and while there is no longer anything cutting edge about this collection, it is a good summary of the period in which downtempo had just come into its own as an established genre. The standout track is Kruder & Dorfmeister's excellent "Young Men", featuring a Mose Allison sample; it is not available elsewhere, and is easily worth the price of a secondhand copy. Was the above review useful to you?
