As the only Holiday album that Analogue Productions and Classic Records both took their shot at it would be most interesting to compare.
Sadly I dont have both today but still have to point out how the Classic is a great cut.
It has a nice tone, balance of instruments and depth. The Stereo here is not just a gimmick either and gives a really nice spread to help the separation.
One detail of interest to note regarding this is that Lady Day is actually singing off center on Side A. Im guessing she was either singing a bit to the right of the microphone or was mixed in that way, so dont worry about your speakers being out of whack or cart channels imbalanced.
Regardless, its the most Live On Stage feel Ive ever got from one of her albums. While the Body And Soul and All or Nothing At All sound more In Studio, neither sound is necessarily better than the other of course.
I really could remain happy with this release as there is nothing to fault. If the Marino 2011 cut is any different I would presume its just that, different. If I would make an educated guess as to how they differ I would think the 45 is cut louder and perhaps focuses more on the vocals, going off of the two other 45s I have.
As this album is very short it doesnt gain much if at all from the extra speed except sides to flip however. The Classic barely uses half of the disc space. But maybe someday Ill confirm or deny these suspicions.
Until then, this is sublime sounding and definitely in the status as demo disc material.
