Notes
The title and cover art of this recording are adapted from a realistic and unabashed painting of a woman's vulva made in 1866 by Gustave Courbet and called "L'Origine du Monde" or "The Origin Of The World"
The design on the disc represents a vulva with seed-like spirals taken from an ivory cylinder seal found in a Minoan tomb, 2000 B.C.
The words for "These Hips" are based on a poem "Homage To My Hips" by Lucille Clifton from her book Two-Headed Woman. Used with permission of the author
The words in Sappho's Song are adapted from Sappho "To Anaktoria" (Fragment 16), translated by Willis Barnstone in his book Sappho And The Greek Lyric Poets
The music on "Hey Chastity" is "your basic country tune"
The words in "Pink Guitar" are arranged by Kay Turner (2) from an essay "The Pink Guitar" by Rachel Blau DuPlessis in her book The Pink Guitar: Writing As Feminist Practice. Used with the permission of the author. The end quote of the song is from Madonna who responded thusly to MTV's refusal of her video for "Justify My Love"
