René Roussel – Rubriques

René Roussel seems to have been a really obscure figure in the european library scene. At least for me! It the only library record that you can find in his discography, that is fairly short, too. But this fact does not make this record less interesting! In my opinion, it is another overseen early 80s ambient electronic gem. Besides the (already comed) bouncy proto-techno tune Caramel, you can spot some really nice moods for long dark nights. Manigance reminds me of Gianni Safred - Futuribile (The Life To Come) somehow someway, and it is no wonder as both records come from the same period, more or less. Réserve is another futuribilesque tune and in fact, I find a lot of parallels between these two albums. So if you want to find some sort of further listening to the Futuribile album, this might be your first choice. My favourite tune is Bivouac though. A really deep cut in the manner of Alessandro Alessandroni's industrial work, found on records like Industriale and Light And Heavy Industry. All in all I find this album really fascinating and interesting and recommend getting a copy, if spotted!

The entire album is essential Library Synth, typical of the Editions Montparnasse 2000 output of the late 70's.
