Notes
from the liner notes:
"About 5 times every evening at the Spot In the Sun, a funny-looking fellow with unruly hair strolls among the tables weaving his way to a grand piano perched precariously in a dark corner of the club.
People Laugh when he sits down at the piano, but when he starts to play and that thick betraying spotlight flashes on, bedlam breaks loose with a roar. It's the "impossible" Danny Apolinar playing, singing, stomping a heavy beat, and running his contortible face through every possible emotion from A-triple-Z.
He may take you down a naughty, bawdy or haughty stroll down 42nd Street, tell you why he Came A Long Way From St. Louie, Wish You Love (?), or spin you down an imaginary seashore for a sickened version of Ebb Tide.
Before you know it you may be saying Bonjour To Paris, chanting of Beautiful Faces, or making up verses for a jazzed up version of Old MacDonald.
It won't be long before the desperate cry of Medic! rings out and a dutiful waiter rushes over with a freash drink and places it on an enormous pile of napkins on the glazed grand.
But Danny is not only an impossibly funny entertainer. Within him runs a sentiment that has thrilled audiences in New York, across the Playboy Club circuit to San Juan and his new club A Spot In The Sun.
This album brings together all the spice and fire, all the ad-libs and laughter, all the glass tinkling and glowing excitement of a live Danny Apolinar performance.
When you play this album, make sure you're well seated in a comfortable chair, we wouldn't want you to fall off when the laughing starts.
