Notes
Originally released March 1985.
This time the album was financed by Brian Slagel (Show No Mercy was paid by band members) and recruited several experienced producers to help in the studio like: producer Ron Fair, who worked for Chrysalis Records, Bernie Grundman provided audio mastering, Eddy Schreyer worked on remastering, and Bill Metoyer, as sound engineer.
The lyrical theme again include hell and Satan, the repeating demonic-sounding voice in the intro of the title track played backwards reveals the repeated phrase "join us", ending with "Welcome back"
"Hardening of the Arteries" on the album ends with a very similar section that makes up the beginning of the song "Hell Awaits" and is also one of the only Slayer songs to fade out on a continuous riff.
Artwork contains elements from "Approaching Centauri" by Jean Giraud (aka Moebius) and "Crossroads of the Universe" by Enki Bilal, both featured in the July 1977 number 4 issue of the fantasy illustration magazine entitled "Heavy Metal".
To promote Hell Awaits, Slayer embarked on the Combat Tour with Venom (8) and Exodus (6).
Rivadavia awarded the album four out of five stars, saying that it was "incredibly ahead of its time" and referred to it as "a mandatory item in the band's remarkable discography".
It has sold over 1,000,000 records worldwide according to Brian Slagel.

- Edited 2 months agoThis remaster sounds full, deep, and rich. Absolutely burly. Well complimenting SLAYER's sound. The green vinyl lights up like neon when it catches the light. As I understand it, only 500 copies of this edition were pressed.

Can anyone explain why the early CD versions of this album is going for hundreds but the original vinyl is so much cheaper? It’s usually the other way around- Clearly this is the first hell awaits pressing cause the chains around the vinyl label appears in other later pressings from 1986

Anyone know if this pressing came with a postcard? Mine have one and it for sure looks old!- Edited 6 months ago

There's unofficial replica Roadrunner LP's in circulate, just remember the NM/NM or Mint copies of original Roadrunner press are insanely rare today. We are not into the 90's anymore when there was plenty of store deadstock available. Personally I dont have problem with replicas/bootlegs as long they are not sold as originals. referencing Hell Awaits (LP, Album, Limited Edition, Reissue, Remastered, Orange/Black Split) 3984-15787-1
Sounds great. Looks great. Nice poster and insert. Nice inner sleeve as well. Quality reissue that’s for sure.referencing Hell Awaits (LP, Album, Picture Disc, Reissue, Remastered, Gold With Blood Splatter) 3984-14031-1
Sounds ok to me, I think I never did listen to an og 1985 Lp but I'm ok with this purchase, drums and bass are on point herereferencing Hell Awaits (LP, Album, Promo) SP25-5180
In my opinion, the best sounding vinyl pressing by a mile. Punchy and as dynamic as the production allows. Good luck finding a copy, though!
