Franklyn B. Paverty

Profile:

Franklyn B Paverty (often referred to as just Paverty) is one of Australia's most enduring bush bands. Since the early 1970s, Paverty has entertained audiences, mostly in and around Canberra. The band's repertoire is predominantly Australian folk music (bush songs, bush ballads and music for bush dances) and includes an eclectic mix of traditional and original songs, ballads and instrumentals with country, blues, rock, bluegrass, skiffle and jug band influences.

Paverty started in 1970 as Franklyn B Paverty and the Platt Valley Crooners. Since then, Paverty has been playing for concerts, folk festivals, bush dances, weddings, parties, school fund-raisers, corporate functions, in Canberra and the surrounding region. In recent years, Paverty has also been known as the Paverty Bush Band.

The band's name originated from sousaphone player Martin Fry (2)'s pseudonym Franklin D. Paverty in The Temperance Seven.
The band's name is often spelled incorrectly as Franklin or Franklin D.

Band members have included: Dave Chalker, Graham Chalker, Bryan Rae, Mal Bennett, Tom Breen, Mark Tandy, Ros Haskew, Fiona Mahoney, Dave O'Neill, Donal Baylor, Frank and Bernie Nizynski, Mike Jackson, John Warner, Bob Buckley, Peter Hobson, Peter Logue, Simone Dawson, Mary Firkins and John Taylor.
