The Yale Russian Chorus

Profile:

The Yale Russian Chorus is a tenor-bass choir founded in 1953 by Denis Mickiewicz as an offshoot of the Yale Russian Club. The choir made 16 tours to the USSR, starting in 1958, when it was the first private group from the USA to visit after the Lacy-Zarubin Agreement on cultural exchange. The alumni of the chorus continued to meet to preserve Mickiewicz's legacy and perform anniversary concerts. Under Mark Bailey, the university chorus diverged from the repertoire and style of the original chorus and lost touch with the alumni, but the groups were eventually reconnected, and performed together in 2017.
